/ Overview — types of flanges

The right flange for every connection

A flange joins pipes, valves and equipment with a bolted, gasketed joint that can be dismantled for maintenance. The type is chosen by how it attaches to the pipe and the service; the class (or PN rating) sets the pressure-temperature limit; and the facing (RF, RTJ, FF) sets the sealing method. AAM Steel supplies every combination to ASME and EN standards.

/ Flange types

Types we supply

Weld Neck (WN)

Butt-welded to pipe; best for high-pressure & cyclic service.

Slip-On (SO)

Slides over pipe & fillet-welded; easy alignment, lower cost.

Socket Weld (SW)

Small-bore high-pressure lines; pipe inserted & welded.

Blind (BL)

Solid disc to close a line, valve or vessel; pressure-test & access.

Lap Joint (LJ)

With stub end; ideal where frequent dismantling or stainless economy needed.

Threaded (SCRD)

Screwed onto threaded pipe; no welding, utility & low-pressure.

Orifice

With meter tappings for flow measurement across an orifice plate.

Special / Waterworks

Long weld neck, reducing, spectacle blind, AWWA C207.

/ FAQ

Flanges — common questions

What are the types of flanges?
Weld neck (WN), slip-on (SO), socket weld (SW), blind (BL), lap joint (LJ), threaded and orifice flanges. Specialised types include long weld neck, reducing, spectacle blind and waterworks (AWWA C207).
What is a blind flange used for?
A blind flange is a solid disc that closes the end of a piping system, valve or vessel opening — for pressure-testing or sealing, and can be unbolted later for access or future extension.
What pressure classes and standards do you supply?
ASME B16.5 (½–24″), B16.47 Series A & B (26–60″) and EN 1092-1 / DIN, in Class 150–2500 (or PN6–PN400), with RF, RTJ and FF facings.
Where can I buy flanges in the GCC?
AAM Steel supplies flanges available across Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia in all types, classes and facings, in carbon, stainless and alloy grades, with material test certificates. Send your list for a quote.
