The weight of a pipe depends on three things: its outside diameter (OD), its wall thickness, and the density of the material. The standard formula for weight per metre is:
W (kg/m) = (OD − wall) × wall × 0.02466 — for carbon steel (density 7850 kg/m³), with OD and wall in millimetres.
For other materials, multiply by the density ratio — for example ×1.019 for 316 stainless (8000 ÷ 7850) or ×0.574 for titanium. Then multiply the weight per metre by the pipe length to get the total. The calculator above does all of this automatically, including common NPS sizes and schedules.
