Calculate the weight of a steel or stainless sheet from its length, width, thickness (gauge) and grade — per sheet, per square metre and total.
Results are indicative; confirm exact mill weights on your MTC. For pipe use the pipe weight calculator.
A sheet is a thin plate, so the same formula applies — with length, width and thickness in mm and density in kg/m³:
Weight (kg) = L × W × T × density ÷ 1,000,000,000
Per square metre, kg/m² = thickness (mm) × density ÷ 1000. A standard 2500 × 1250 mm 1.5 mm 304 sheet weighs about 37.5 kg. Choose the grade above (stainless 8000, carbon 7850, aluminium 2700 kg/m³).
